A Party Hall with History
✨ About The Metro Hall
A Glamorous Legacy at 759 Carnarvon Street, New Westminster
Welcome to The Metro Hall — where vintage glamour meets rock 'n' roll soul, where ghosts dance alongside legends, and where every inch of the space tells a story. Nestled in the heart of New Westminster’s cultural corridor, The Metro Hall is more than just a venue. It’s an icon.
🎞️ From Hollywood Bowl to The Grooveyard
Before it became The Metro, this space lived many lives. In its earliest days, it was known as the Hollywood Bowl, a local dance hall that filled with the energy of a generation.
In the 1960s, it evolved into The Grooveyard, one of the Lower Mainland’s most iconic teen dance clubs. Spearheaded by local promoter Les Vogt and legendary radio DJ Red Robinson, The Grooveyard was the place to be for music lovers. One unforgettable night, Ike and Tina Turner performed a last-minute show here for over 700 fans when their Seattle concert was canceled — a moment now etched in New West music lore.
🎤 A Stage for Legends
Over the decades, this stage has hosted a lineup that reads like a hall of fame.
🎶 Ella Fitzgerald. Ozzy Osbourne. Ike & Tina Turner. Michael Bublé.
From jazz greats to rock gods and rising Canadian stars, The Metro has been the backdrop for some of music’s most unforgettable performances.
🎬 Seen on Screen
With its cinematic flair, The Metro Hall has also become a sought-after filming location. You’ve seen it in shows like Supernatural, Lucifer, and Green Lantern, and in music videos like Marianas Trench’s “Stutter” and “Good to You.” Whether it's standing in as a shadowy speakeasy or a rock venue on fire, this space is pure movie magic.
👻 A Touch of the Paranormal
Every glamorous building has its secrets. At The Metro Hall, the legends include more than musicians. The venue is rumored to be home to seven spirits, including:
-
The Caretaker, who never really clocked out.
-
The Naval Officer, whose boots echo through the halls.
-
The Lady of the Night, known by her lingering perfume.
-
The Siblings, whose laughter sometimes rings from empty corners.
Whether you believe or not, there’s no denying the energy here is electric — in every sense.
🍸 The Flapper Lounge
Tucked away on the ground floor of The Metro is a secret escape: the Flapper Lounge. Opened in 2023, this speakeasy-inspired cocktail bar celebrates the untamed spirit of the 1920s. With art deco décor, vintage flair, and handcrafted cocktails, it’s an intimate tribute to the powerful, independent femmes of the Prohibition era.
💫 Experience The Metro
Today, The Metro Hall blends its rich history with modern luxury and old-Hollywood glam. It's where artists take the stage, couples say “I do,” TV crews roll film, and unforgettable nights are made.
